THE GOLFING EXPERIENCE
Over the years there have been significant changes to the course but the golfing experience at Fulford Heath remains the Club’s ‘top priority’. The Greens Committee and Course Manager look towards constant development and each year add improvements to the course.
The course is not over long but is a true test of golf where all players have to think about placement and accuracy throughout. It is gently undulating and easily accessible but buggies are available for those golfers who prefer not to walk!
The forty two strategically placed bunkers, mature tree lined fairways and various water hazards concentrate the minds of golfers of all abilities.
Perhaps our best recommendation is the well earned reputation of having amongst the very best kept greens in the Midlands Region. The firm, fast and true greens are a delight and, with the benefit of hand-mowing, these high standards can only improve further.
Many of the fairways are bordered by large areas of semi-rough, leading to permanent rough and wild flower areas. Every year, the Course Manager, sows new areas with wildflower and bird seed mixed to provide flowers and seeds for the wildlife to thrive on. Fulford Heath takes part in the National Bumblebee Project and has installed small hives that are left out in the woods to allow a bumblebee queen to rear around half a dozen young, which, if things go to plan, then hatch out and colonise the local habitat.
Fulford Heath has a fully automatic irrigation system. Water is drawn from the lakes, which not only provide the water for irrigation purposes but are also a sanctuary for a lot of wildlife, particularly birds. The lakes are well stocked to provide an additional fishing benefit for club members and herons! who all enjoy catching a wide selection of fish.
