Adverts were placed in the Metro, Birmingham Mail Extra, Redditch & Bromsgrove Advertiser and National Club Golfer. Thanks to Andy Boyd for his assistance with this.
Attendance
35 people attended on the day and a further 5 people contacted us who were unable to attend but arranged to come on another occasion.
12 people played 9 or 18 holes on the day, whilst the majority either knew the course and only wanted to discuss membership or arranged to play on another day. You may recall the weather was very bad on the 30th, which will also have influenced this overall attendance.
Outcome
Despite the smaller attendance than anticipated, the level of interest from those attending was high and a number of interviews were arranged in the following weeks to the end of September, when the Open Day offers will cease.
As a result to date, arising direct from the Open Day:
15 new Full members have been approved
4 new Restricted members have been approved
4 new Social members have been approved
1 new Junior member has been approved
1 New Beginner has been approved
Additionally, existing members, encouraged by the Open Day offers have proposed the following:
7 new Full members
2 new Restricted members
2 new Social members
There have been further changes in existing members category of membership:
2 Beginners are now Full members
1 Deferred member has become a Full member
1 Deferred member has become a Restricted member
Conclusions
In total therefore, we have obtained 25 Full members, 7 Restricted members, 6 Social members, 1 Junior member and 1 Beginner.
The Open Day, together with the membership offers made available, has thus clearly been a success in terms of achieving, in part at least, the following objectives:
- Offsetting the effects of the loss of members in 2009 due to the economic climate
- Helping to protect membership numbers for 2010
Members can be confident that we have not over-recruited new members but I hope will recognise our need to remain active in the market in what are difficult times for the majority of golf clubs.
