Weston Awayday with Gay Hill Golf Club
Date: 3rd September 2009
Fulford Heath and Gay Hill have been close friends for many years. The annual awayday affirms this longstanding relationship.
After the win in 2008 by Gay Hill Fulford Heath triumphed this year by seven matches to five though I am not sure how important that fact is.
The day started in the expected manner with 48 golfers sleepily wandering the Fulford Heath car park waiting for the tardy coach. The coach broke down several times on the way to Weston but no one seemed to notice or appeared to care.
It continues to bemuse the writer that each year we attend the awayday the weather is surpringly kind. Once again the weather gremlins were missing and although windy, the day was warm and sunny. The coach driver was terrific and ensured the sing-song on the charabanc did not interfere with delivering us, safely, back to the club car park 12 hours after we left.
A full breakfast was followed by 18 holes of golf, a few warming tots then fish and chips on the front.
I am grateful for the generous approach taken by all that attend the day. My special thanks go to Ian Jones the Fulford Heath Chairman, Eddie Falahee the Gay Hill Captain, Jerry Walsh who organised the team from Gay Hill and Dave Crawley who played as an honoured guest for the day. John Mooney became the official photographer for the day.
Our financial advisor for the day was Peter Geary while Tony Reeves supplied the much in demand pickled onions.
A few images follow to reflect the day
